I am a post-doctoral research fellow at the Università degli Studi “G. d’Annunzio” Chieti–Pescara, Italy, where I study the coupling between brain oscillations and respiratory rhythms during meditation in both expert and novice practitioners. This work sits at the intersection of interoception, altered states of consciousness, and contemplative practices (a research direction that has long defined my scientific ambitions).
Prior to this, I was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Oldenburg, where I investigated how spatial separation between target and distractor speakers modulates neural entrainment to target speech in auditory attention decoding paradigms. A secondary focus of this project was the development of EEG decoding pipelines optimized for minimal data, with the aim of enabling near real-time neurofeedback applications. This work was funded by the Cluster of Excellence Hearing4All (H4A) and Hanse-Wissenshaftskolleg (HWK).
My PhD focused on the development of signal processing pipelines tailored for EEG-based developmental cognitive neuroscience. Working with datasets collected from newborns (0–4 days old) and infants (12 months), I designed methods to extract stimulus-specific neural responses from inherently noisy recordings. This work was carried out as part of the ERC-funded NeurosoNew project, with an emphasis on algorithms suited to wearable EEG systems. During a PhD internship at the ESL Laboratory, EPFL, I additionally developed machine learning models for epileptic seizure detection under the constraint of a minimal EEG channel count.
